Knowing how to fill a piping bag is definitely something one needs to know to take your decorating to the next level. Here is a quick step by step on how to easily fill a piping bag.
Tools You’ll Need:
Rubber Band or Binder Clip
First, you’ll need some frosting to fill your bag. Check out my recipes for some delicious frostings.
If you plan to use an icing tip with the coupler, snip the end of the piping bag large enough to fit the coupler then slide the coupler inside the bag. Place the tip on then attach the ring that holds it in place. You can also use a tip without a coupler just slide the tip right into the bag. Or use no tip at all by just snipping the end of the piping bag off to the size you need.
Now that your bag is prepped, place it inside the glass and fold the top over the outside of the glass to hold it open. Then fill it with your frosting. Lift the bag off the glass and twist the top while effectively squeezing out all the air and pushing the icing down to the tip.
Secure the top of the piping bag with a rubber band or binder clip.
You can also try folding the top of the empty bag around your hand instead of a glass, then twist the top in the same manner and secure with a rubber band or binder clip.
Now it’s your turn. Go whip of some frosting and get your cake on!
You can use a plastic storage bag instead of a piping bag. I like using a gallon size or quart size because the plastic is sturdier.
